Hair raising times

It has been revealed today that the BCCI have written to the ICC asking them to not select Darrel Hair as an umpire for the Champions Trophy. The umpire list was supposed to have been announced last week.

I also hope that Hair isn’t selected, as he is quite possibly the most incompetent umpire on the “Elite” panel at the moment. But the ICC musn’t bow down to the BCCI over anything. If they want to select Hair, they shouldn’t let a letter from the BCCI stop them. The ICC run international cricket, not the BCCI.

Well whether Hair is selected or not is another matter, but what all this probably means is that most of the subcontinent teams feel that Hair’s decisions are usually biased against the subcontinental teams for one reason or another. It’ll be interesting to see what ICC does now.

It will be a bad precedent if ICC drops any umpire due to pressure from member countries.I do not understand what wrong did Darrel Hair commit.Ball tampering is quite common at international level and the umpires are the sole judges of unfair play. The Pakistan team is well known for this.Ranjan Maduglle’s verdict on ball tempering was on the same lines as precdicted in many quarters.ICC has certainly bowed to pressure and made Darrel Hair a scapegoat. This is very unfortunate for the game.
